Went to Carnegie Hall last night...(007 music discussion)

...to listen to the "Music of James Bond." $69 for 2nd Tier seats. Sat waiting for almost an hour for it to start, cuz I got there really early. Hadn't even started yet, and I was already getting bored. And then...

BAM! 007-ey goodness graced my ears, as they played nearly every 007 title theme (except the one for "Octopussy", the unofficial "Never Say Never Again" , and "Tomorrow Never Dies" [yes, they even did the unofficial 1967 "Casino Royale"]), plus a few non-title ones (such as "Raid on Fort Knox" and "A Pleasant Ride in St. Petersburg [tank chase]). Y'know, I wouldn't have expected them to pull off Duran Duran's "A View to A Kill" that well. Wow, I was dead wrong. I was satisfied with every song they played (not only with the musical scores, but with the singing as well, which was done by Mary Carewe and Simon Bowman). And then, after "You Know My Name," I was like, "WOW." But then, they play a song that wasn't in the program. According to the conductor, Carl Davis, the song known as "Surrender" could only be heard if you went far enough into the credits for "Tommorow Never Dies" and was supposed to be the title theme for that movie. It was awesome. AND THEN, they pull the same stunt again and do "Another Way to Die." Yeah, the one from "Quantum of Solace." And yet again was I left drooling.

Complaints

Food was overpriced ($2.50 for candy?!?! HELL. NO.), so I was left hungry during the long intermission. Mary Carewe, the female singer, was often making weird gestures to try and stimulate the crowd, which was a bit more than an eyesore. And at the very end of "You Know My Name," Simon Bowman, the male singer, looks constipated. >_> Thankfully, no one gave two ****s about that, because we didn't get tickets to see how they would "dance".

Best Song

Tough choice, really. I guess it would have to be "A View to a Kill," "The Man with the Golden Gun," and "Another Way to Die", mostly for very easily surpassing my expectations.

Worst Song

Just make it clear, IMO, all of the songs were great. BUT, if I HAD to pick a worst, it would probably be "Live and Let Die," probably because they chose to slightly increase the tempo. Still sounds really good, but I prefer the original one (all that goes for "You Know My Name" as well, but the increase in tempo seemed to suit it better than "Live and Let Die").

Overall, it was really well done and totally worth the spent money. If I could listen to it again, I totally would.

Anyways, discuss the 007 music.
