So I went and looked up the whole "Ken always has release." Thing. This would be where that comes from

I GUESS him having a Shikai works, but I really don't think this was planned. That being like 9 or 10 years ago only makes that more likely.

Did she say that he's always in shikai? I think she just said that Kenpachi doesn't have a Bankai and that he doesn;t even know the name of his sword, implying that he doesn;t have a shikai.

Ichigo is the one that says he's sword was like Ken's and since she never corrects him its been implied that his sword was also in Shikai mode 24/7. The whole "he is so powerful, his sword couldn't be sealed" worked to explain how this would work. I'm curious what other translation have this dialog as though since this doesn't seem to be the best scans. ATM it seems like the window was left open for him to have a shikai, but it was heavily implied that he would just get a bankai right away.

I imagine it was Kenpachi's own raw durability that allowed him to stay intact while in that space vacuum.

My theory on the ending is that Gremmy lost control. His ability requires that he be leveled headed and assume he's in control. By the end of the chapter after seeing Kenpachi supersede everything he imagined left him loopy. So when he stated he'd be as great a monster as Ken is, it's not hard to imagine that he couldn't comprehend it properly.

I think what it might have been is that Gremmy said;  'I'll just have to become stronger than you. I want to win'. Meaning that at that moment in time he believed than Kenny was both stronger than him, and able to defeat him. And because he imagined it as such, it became true.

And then because of that, all of the wounds Kenny had done up till that point unhealed; because Kenny was now stronger than Gremmy's abilities to heal himself

So more simply; Because Gremmy needed to prove that he was stronger than Kenny, he defeated himself. Exactly like he might have done earlier by imaging he was going to die.

That or Kubo is just making it up as he goes along. But this kinda makes sense
